Distribution and population trends of birds in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. An English version will be accessible online from February 2019. This year’s edition of The State of Birds in Switzerland presents the most important results of the breeding bird atlas* in a special issue.Įxplore the following link to view interactive graphics from the Swiss Bird Index SBI® and the breeding bird indices for each species up until 2017 as well as recent results and publications: *Please note: The atlas is available in print in German, French and Italian. Farmland birds in particular have seen steep declines, while the populations of generalist species have increased. The maps show the changes, some of them dramatic, that have occurred in a relatively short period of time. For the first time, we are able to represent quantitative changes in the form of density and distribution change maps, thanks to cutting-edge analytical techniques and a methodology similar to the one used for the 1993–1996 atlas. The results of the surveys carried out from 2013 to 2016 are presented in the new breeding bird atlas*. ![]() ![]() ![]() Every 20 years, the Swiss Ornithological Institute and its more than 2000 volunteer collaborators survey the distribution and population sizes of our native breeding birds as comprehensively as possible.
